BLUE HAVEN CREATIVITY
Scientists say the greatest fecundity of life is found at the edge, where land meets water.
The fecundity of human creativity is found at the edge as well…the edge of nature, the edge of the unusual, the edge of imagination, the edge of self-discovery, the edge of freeing experiences that bring us to new frontiers of possibility.
Sometimes the best way we can live more wholeheartedly is by reconnecting to the wonderful creativity we experienced (unself-consciously) as a child.
“ The antidote to fatigue is living more wholeheartedly”
—Brother David Stendahl-Rast

BLUE HAVEN POETRY
Our House Has An Ocean
No matter when we awaken, the Ocean, and its active sky at the end of our bed, are already filled with nature telling its hundreds of life-giving stories.
When we walk on the deck to greet the day, the sea lays its gift of abundance at our feet.
While we make tea in the kitchen, the Ocean calls for attention with great white splashes on the rocky islands filled with sea lions and sea birds.
When we sit in the living room with our cups of morning tea, our reading is pleasantly interrupted by the Ocean’s distracting show of gentle, and sometimes sizable, waves that fill the curves of the haven.
And we feel an uplifting surge of desire to fill life with our own waves of creative gifts.
Feeding our creativity by exploring the dramatic rocky shoreline, the softness of nearby sandy beaches, or the hidden worlds of shallow tide pools, we inevitably participate in life’s mystery and its remembering messages of all beginning.
In the evening, after making our contributions to the art of living, we toast the orange-gold-red sunset and express our gratitude for the day’s experience.
Later we walk outside and are comforted by the night’s enveloping canopy of countless stars sparkling the dark sky. Wonder and awe settle in our bodies as our thoughts strive to hold the enormity of it all.
Sometimes in the winter the scene shifts, and we are treated to lightning strikes that dance across the sea’s horizon —oh, what a performance…one that no city lightshow can ever exceed in beauty and poignancy.
Our house’s Ocean is an endless source of joy and magic.
When we pay careful attention, it gives us all the inspiration and wisdom we can hold in this lifetime.
We soon realize the great movement and life activity of nature on the Coast serves to bring us greater peace than a quiet pillow in a wooden hall of meditation.
And when we rest after a full day, we slide open the glass doors of our bedroom to invite the island sounds to carry us into deep sleep.
How kind of our house to share its Ocean.

STORIES OF CREATIVITY
AT BLUE HAVEN
-
Professional photo artists, overwhelmed by the beauty of the unique-to-this-area twilight and dramatic seascapes, have created books and staged shows capturing the unexpected inspirations.
-
Plein Air Artist groups have returned repeatedly to capture the gold/white morning light on the islands and the profusion of aqua-marine blues of the Blue Haven Bay.
-
Musicians from England, Russia, and China have stayed at Blue Haven and discovered the restorative natural beauty brings out a new level of inspiration for their art.
-
And when people who suffered traumas and health issues came to Blue Haven they found there is great healing in painting, writing, and immersing themselves in nature’s ceaseless flow of creative life at the edge.
-
Once people discover the joy of play and freely expressing their inner artist, they often make it an essential, on-going, part of their life’s joy. Painting together with numerous people, Dan has helped them discover their inner artist. Several have gone on to exhibit and sell their art but most importantly they continue to live a life enriched by the freedom of their greater creativity.
“You must learn one thing.
The world was made to be free in.“
